Course description

Structural analysis

The principal methods of structural analysis include rotational-vibrational spectroscopy, i.e. primarily mid-infrared spectroscopy (MIR), Raman spectroscopy, which is complementary to it, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS).By application of all three methods, any compound of unknown structure can be unambiguously characterized. The fundamentals of all the mentioned methods, including experimental arrangements, measurement techniques, equipment requirements and methods of measured data evaluation, are presented in detail within the course.

The knowledge gained within the frame of the course should enable a participant to comprehend obtained spectra, to interpret them independently and thus, to understand the structure of the evaluated compound.
